Free Poster: 10 Tips for Titrating
Best practices made easy

Image Here Manual titrations are both time consuming and prone to errors, as accuracy and reproducibility is operator dependent. Important data can also be lost if recorded incorrectly. So once you’ve made the switch to an automated titrator how do you maximise the benefits of speed, reliability and reproducibility

With the help of Gayle Gleichauf, Thermo Fisher Scientific Applications Laboratory Manager, we’ve broken down everything you need to know in this custom A2 poster. Our professional guide for everything from choosing an autotitrator, to calibrating pH, to caring for your electrodes will have you experiencing simplicity in what was once complex measurements.

Water and Wastewater

Use an automated titrator for dedicated redox titrations including dissolved oxygen in wastewater. The Orion Star T910 pH Titrator can be used for dedicated acid-based titrations including alkalinity in waters. For dedicated ion concentration titrations including total hardness of drinking water and wastewater, chloride in drinking water and wastewater, and ammonia and Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen (TKN) of wastewater, the Orion Star T930 Ion Titrator is perfect you.

Food and Beverage

For dedicated redox titrations including sulfite/SO₂, reducing sugar in juice and wine, ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and peroxide value in food products, the Orion Star T920 Redox Titrator is recommended. Use the Orion Star T910 pH Titrator for dedicated acid-base titrations including acidity of food products. Titration techniques include equivalence point titrations and preset pH endpoint titrations for versatile sample analysis. Pair the titrator option with any of our premium ROSS pH electrodes or select one of our preconfigured titrator and electrode kits for a bundled discount. The Orion Star T930 Ion Titrator is perfect for dedicated ion concentration titrations such as salt in food products and calcium in juice and milk.

Environmental and Industrial

Use the Orion Star T920 Redox Titrator for dedicated redox titrations including organic matter in soil. Titration techniques include equivalence point titrations and preset mV endpoint titrations for versatile sample analysis. For total acid number in petroleum products or total base number in petroleum products by automatic titration, consider the Orion Star T910 pH Titrator, or T940 All-in-One Titrator. Total Acid Number (TAN) in a petroleum product is determined using the preprogrammed method T3 TAN. The sample is dissolved in the prescribed solvent and is directly titrated to a preset endpoint at pH 11 using an alkaline titrant prepared in isopropanol. A blank is analysed and automatically subtracted.

Consumer Products

Using a simple and fast method to determine the types and concentrations of surfactants in consumer products such as shampoos or detergents can help buyers to choose a product with high efficacy and low side effects. For dedicated ion concentration titrations such as surfactants in shampoo, use the Orion Star T930 Ion Titrator. Titration techniques include equivalence point titrations and preset mV endpoint titrations plus multiple known addition (MKA) mode. Using MKA mode, the titrator performs an automated calibration and calculation of sample concentration by adding aliquots of standard to sample, removing the need for a separate calibration and minimising matrix effects.
